A 21-year-old Oklahoma State Cowboy and former NCAA Champion has a three shot lead entering the last round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic. But as we head to Sunday, can Matthew Wolff win his second PGA Tour event?
It’s expected to be a 92-degree day in Detroit tomorrow, but it’s been hot all weekend so the better players should be used to the weather. Finding golfers that can make a number, or correct a bad hole that’s hurt them so far, could be the key to victory. Keep in mind DGC is a Par 72 setup with four Par 3’s and four Par 5’s.
We make some picks for Round 4 below. Enter your lineups here.
Bryson DeChambeau ($10,800)
Scores of 66-67-67 so far, and clearly has a chance to go even lower. He put in four birdies in a bogey-free round on Friday and five birdies and a bogey yesterday. Now 62-under-par over the last 15 rounds, it looks like he just wanted to put himself in position. But if he starts firing at flags and Par 4’s, he can go as low as he needs if the putts roll in.
Viktor Hovland ($10,200)
Opened with a bogey on #2 on Thursday... and has made 14 straight birdies since. The Oklahoma State Cowboy was finished 13th here last year, was T11 last week at the Travelers last week, and already has a win this year in Puerto Rico. At 22 years of age, he’s got a chance to stamp his place as Rookie of The Year. And since he’s six shots back, he can start firing at flags here as well.
Matthew Wolff ($8,200)
69-64-64... are you not entertained? I guess the theory here is that he can start taking more conservative shots late and not really go low, but he’s also below average on the roster. The 21-year-old clearly has talent, and loves the Detroit Golf Club. Still seems like there’s plenty of value, and he’s done this before: His only tour win at the 3M in July of 2019 was a one-shot win over DeChambeau.
Harry Higgs ($7,600)
You don’t see a lot of pro golfers go out in 37 and come home in 41, but our pick for today did during the third round, which looked more like the Three Mile Island of rounds. It’s likely the 28-year-old from New Jersey will not feel a lot of pressure being 20 shots back of the leader and the only golfer over par. But he’s talented and already finished second this year in Bermuda Championship. He can fire at some flags in an effort to add a few grand to his final check, as he’s five shots behind 69th place right now as he sits dead last in 70th.
