Veteran running back LeSean McCoy has signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. McCoy was last with the Kansas City Chiefs, but made his name in Philadelphia with a strong career as an Eagle. Going on his 12th year in the league, McCoy will look to steal away snaps from Ronald Jones and rookie Ke’Shawn Vaughn.

Tampa Bay made a major overhaul at quarterback when they brought in Tom Brady to replace Jameis Winston, so expectations are high. If the offense can live up to those expectations, their starting running back should also get a boost. McCoy could be an impediment to one of those young backs taking over a full workload.

The good news for Jones or Vaughn is that McCoy was a healthy scratch in the playoffs and at points in the regular season for the Chiefs. He did show flashes, but coach Andy Reid wanted Damien Williams as the lead back. McCoy is likely there for his veteran presence, but I expect Bruce Arians would prefer one of Vaughn or Jones to take off with the job, as they both likely have more upside than the thirty-two year old vet.
