UPDATE 2:00 p.m.: Charlie Ontiveros did not weigh in to replace Eric Spicely, as the fight was not approved by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. There will be no fight for Markus Perez.

UPDATE: 12:50 p.m.: Eric Spicely has pulled out of this fight due to issues with his weight cut. He’s been replaced by Charlie Ontiveros, who makes his UFC debut with an 11-6 MMA record. The odds for this fight have not been updated yet.

Two middleweights that could use a win to stay in the UFC do battle in a grappler vs. striker bout at UFC Fight Night this Saturday when Eric Spicely takes on Markus Perez live from Las Vegas and the UFC Apex facility.

While this fight is listed at a catchweight, the last six fights involving these two competitors were all at 185 lbs. If that’s changed, we’re not sure why.

Spicely is 12-5, but only 2-5 in the UFC. This is his second fight back in the promotion after he was let go for three straight losses, but two wins in CES MMA got him a spot back on the roster. His first fight upon his return in June of last year was a unanimous decision loss to Deron Winn. He’s landed 3.71 strikes per minute, but absorbed 5.72 in his UFC career, but he tries to win with his ground game, and both his UFC wins are via chokes.

Perez is 12-3 overall, 2-3 in the UFC, but is more of a standup striker. In his fights in the big promotion, he lands 2.75 strikes per minute, but absorbs 3.96. He’s never been stopped in his MMA career, as all his losses have been via unanimous decision. This will be his first fight since falling to Wellington Turman in November of last year, and the Sao Paolo-based “Maluko” might need a win to stay under Dana White’s contract.
