After today’s three games in the WNBA, each team in “The Wubble” will have played at least one game. And while the league’s marquee franchises, favorites, and prized rookies mostly took to the floor yesterday, it’s a less-exciting slate today that has more teams in rebuilding mode in action.
Take out the Las Vegas Aces, who will be missing three-time All-Star Liz Cambage this season, and none of these teams is expected to win 12 games via win totals. But there’s still value to be had, and we’ll try and extract some today.
Here are the odds and spreads for tomorrow’s WNBA Opening Day action, courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
Connecticut Sun vs. Minnesota Lynx -3.5. Total 153
Chicago Sky vs. Las Vegas Aces -1. Total 174
Dallas Wings -4 vs. Atlanta Dream. Total 150.5
The pick: Dallas Wings -4
Dallas and Atlanta might be the worst two teams in the league, but at least Dallas is playing with something resembling a full deck of cards today. Atlanta is running out a Pinochle deck that’s been cut in half.
The Dream are missing Glory Johnson, Courtney Williams, and Kalani Brown today. That’s just too much of what was projected to be a starting lineup to be competitive until they get everyone back to IMG and in reasonable health.
The Wings start a pure scorer in Arike Ogunbowale, and have enough rotation-level players in Kayla Thornton, Allisha Gray, and the returning Moriah Jefferson to be competitive. They can also give some minutes to high-ceiling rookies Satou Sabally from Oregon and the intriguing Bella Alarie from Princeton.
In a week or two when the Dream have something closer to a full roster, this might look different. But for now ATL just doesn’t have enough talent to expect to be competitive, and they might get run off the floor today.
