As he does often, Kyle Busch crossed the line and took the checkered flag at Saturday’s Xfinity Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.
The problem is according to the record books it never happened, as Busch’s car failed a post-race inspection and he was disqualified. According to NASCAR “Busch’s car was found out of compliance with the height requirements, according to the NASCAR Rule Book.”
It means Austin Cindric, who was the second driver to pass the checkered flag, gets his third Xfinity Series victory of the year in the My Bariatric Solutions 300. Busch went from first to last, just like Ricky Bobby would say.
It was Busch’s 98th win in the series, but now he’s back to 97. This has happened before, as Denny Hamlin was disqualified in the Xfinity Series last year at Darlington for the same infraction.
So if you had Busch on your DraftKings daily fantasy roster, what happens? Well whomever said “cheaters never prosper” didn’t know about NASCAR DFS regulations. At DraftKings, this is actually accounted for in the rules.
Finishing Position is defined as the driver’s standing order at the end of the race. Disqualifications related to same-day post-race inspection will not change a driver’s Finishing Position, Laps Led, or Fastest Laps stats.
That applies to the sports betting market as well, as whomever crosses the line first is declared the winner. Even if they were using a Formula 1 car boosted with superchargers from The Fast and The Furious, those who bet on those that cheat are still the winners.
So congrats to Kyle Busch bettors, and a real bad break for those that had Austin Cindric on their tickets or their DFS rosters. At least for Cindric personally, he will be the winner and get the spoils. Let’s hope Busch kindly leaves the actual checkered flag in his car before going home.
