Tiger Woods makes the cut for Memorial Tournament

Tiger Woods stumbled for much of Friday, but finished strong and just made the cut.

The 2020 Memorial Tournament heads into the weekend and Tiger Woods will continue on. It was a close shave for the five-team Memorial winner after he stumbled for much of the day. But a strong pair of holes late and a rough day for much of the field has him at least into the weekend. The cut line finished at +3, and he made it with a +3.

Woods will tee off early at 8 a.m. on Saturday with Brooks Koepka. Television coverage for the day will include Golf Channel from 12:30-3 p.m. and CBS from 3-6 p.m. On Sunday, Golf Channel will cover the day from 1-3:30 p.m. and CBS will air the close of the tournament from 3:30 p.m.-7 p.m. PGA Tour Live will have live stream coverage all day both days.

Tiger shot one-under on Thursday, and entered Friday in the thick of things. He birdied his third hole and it looked like we might get to see a vintage Tiger performance. However, things went south in a hurry. He bogeyed his fourth, sixth, and eighth holes to drop to +1 for the tournament heading into the back nine.

The situation deteriorated further as he double-bogeyed his tenth hole and bogeyed his 11th hole. Another bogey on his 16th hole put him at +5, and with the cut line at that point still at +2, all seemed lost.

However, Woods closed strong with birdies on his 17th and 18th holes to finish at +3 for the round. From there, it was a waiting game. At the close of his round, the cut line was +2. It shifted between +2 and +3 all afternoon, but eventually settled at +3 to get him through to the weekend.

Woods is 12 strokes off the lead, so he’s not quite in the thick of things. But if he can get hot on Saturday, he could make this at least a little bit interesting. We likely won’t be seeing his traditional red shirt on Sunday, but maybe it can get interesting.
