A catchweight bout between two fighters that have competed at featherweight and lightweight will split the difference when Grant Dawson takes on Nad Narimani on UFC Fight Night this Saturday on ESPN.
Dawson is an exciting prospect at 15-1 with a 3-0 record in the UFC with two submissions. He’s averaged 5.09 takedowns per 15 minutes in the octagon with 48% accuracy, and also outstrikes his opponents 3.48 to 2.15 per minute. His win over Darrick Minner in his last outing was during Benavidez vs. Figueiredo 1, a rear-naked choke victory for the 26-year-old from Nebraska. Of his 15 wins, 14 have been via stoppage, with 11 via submission.
Dawson is fighting on Fight Island so his failed test for PED’s previously doesn’t matter for licensure.
Narimani is 12-3, 2-1 in the UFC. His loss to Mike Grundy in March was his first UFC loss after a pair of decision wins over Khalid Taha and Anderson dos Santos. He’s not afraid of the mat either, completing 2.64 takedowns per 15 minutes with a 41% accuracy, and five submissions along with two knockouts in his career. The 33-year-old is from Bristol, England, but fights out of Team Alpha Male in Northern California.
