Tale of the tape for Alexandre Pantoja vs. Askar Askarov

Alexandre Pantoja and Askar Askarov square off in a flyweight bout on the main card at UFC Fight Night on Saturday, July 18th. We break down the odds.

Two top 10 flyweight fighters are set to face off Saturday on Fight Island. Alexandre Pantoja is ranked fourth and battles with seventh-ranked Askar Askarov.

Pantoja is 22-4 and has been competing in UFC since 2017. His last loss came to top ranked Deiveson Figueiredo last July, and he’s only been defeated twice since 2010. His speed is one of his greatest strengths, and that could be important against Askarov. He lands 4.58 significant strikes per minute and 1.1 takedowns per three rounds while in a UFC octagon.

Askarov is undefeated with an 11-0-1 record. He had a draw against Brandon Moreno two fights ago to open his UFC career, and followed that up with a win in January over fellow Fight Island resident Tim Elliott. Askarov excels as a grappler, and seven of his 11 wins have been submissions. Pantoja has only forced eight submissions in his career, so he should look to prevent Askarov from getting in close.
