The tri-oval at Kentucky Speedway welcomes the NASCAR Cup today for the Quaker State 400, live on FS1 at 2:30 p.m. ET. Of course DraftKings has plenty of DFS contests available for the race, but sometimes you need a cheaper driver to fill out the rest of your roster. We break down some of the best picks to round out your roster below, and you can set your lineups here.
Modest Sleepers
Aric Almirola ($7,300)
His last five races: 5th, 3rd, 3rd, 5th, 3rd. How’s he cheaper than an average driver in the field? Averaging 554 fantasy points per race in those five outings, and the No. 10 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford has shown enough horsepower to compete. He starts fourth today, and is likely to add some lead-lap points to go with place points given his current form.
Bubba Wallace ($7,000)
Oft forgotten in the millions of words being written about what Wallace is doing for his sport and the Black Lives Matter movement is that the #43 car is having a very good season. Finished ninth at Indy last week, and averaging 31.8 DFS points per race this season. He starts 18th today so there’s also room to increase his place points. It’s a matter of time before he breaks through and wins a race, and that day could be today, but it’s likely he continues to grind out top-half finishes while leading a few laps along the way.
Deep Sleepers
Michael McDowell ($5,700)
What’s this guy have to do to get some respect from the oddsmakers? He’s 17th in DFS points per race this season, but 31st in cost today. Take away his wreck in the second race at Pocono, and he’s finished in the top half of the field in six straight races. Also eighth in the first at Pocono, and seventh at Indy. Just keep putting him in your lineup.
John H Nemechek ($5,300)
Grinds out cheap points each week in his rookie season, and the Front Row Motorsports #38 Ford has beaten his starting position on all the fastest tracks such as Daytona and Talladega. An average of 28.5 fantasy points is great for the price, and he starts 22nd today with room to improve.
