Charles Byrd and Maki Pitolo are both middleweights in need of a victory to keep their status in UFC assured. But for fantasy purposes, title fights count the same as the undercard. Are these fighters that should make your DFS roster for UFC 250?
DraftKings DFS Values
Charles Byrd: $8,800
Maki Pitolo: $7,400
Byrd is 10-6 with eight stoppages, but is 1-2 in UFC with back-to-back losses via TKO. He’s somewhat active with 4.21 strikes per minute, and 1.26 takedowns per three rounds. He was stopped by the undefeated and super-prospect Edmen Shahbazyan in just 38 seconds last time in the octagon.
Pitolo is 12-5 career with nine stoppages, but lost his only UFC fight by decision to Callan Potter in October. Potter is a journeyman, so there’s no great work there. Whether that was nerves being on the big stage for the first time or lack of talent remains to be seen.
Byrd’s better list of opponents is why he’s the favorite, but he hasn’t show much either. One of these guys might be looking for work if they can’t find a win so there should be a bit of desperation, but that might not translate to a great fight. If Byrd can find his form against a lesser fighter he might be able to score a first round submission or KO, of which he has seven in his career. If he fits your budget, he could be worth a roster slot in hopes of an early stoppage.
