UFC 250 features what is basically an eliminator fight for the vacant bantamweight title from the now-retired Henry Cejudo between Aljamain Sterling vs. Cory Sandhagen. But is there DFS value on the main card fight?
DraftKings DFS Values
Aljamain Sterling: $8,200
Cory Sandhagen: $8,000
Sterling is a terrific fighter and ranked #2 in the division, but it might not translate to fantasy points as he’s got nine decisions on his 18-3 record. He’s somewhat active as a puncher with 4.18 significant strikes per minute, but also averages 2.1 takedowns every 15 minutes of ring time. In MMA fantasy, you’d rather be winning early on your feet than on the mat.
Sandhagen rises and fires his fists as much as anyone in the sport. He’s won five in a row, three of those as stoppages, but he’s gone the distance his last two fights. What makes him intriguing is the 8.89 significant strikes per minute landed, one of the highest numbers in all of UFC. That’s almost 4.5 DFS points for every minute he’s fighting, and his 12-1 record is impressive. But he’s also never faced anyone the caliber of Sterling in his career.
Sandhagen is the tiniest of underdogs in the most even fight on the card at -106 against Sterling’s -117. He’s likely got value just for his activity, and if you think he’ll be the winner he should for sure be on your roster. But if Sterling can get Sandhagen on the mat and make work of him as a wrestler, that would have some value but maybe not enough to have him worth $8,200 of your salary cap.
