Titans OC Arthur Smith says Derrick Henry’s workload ‘depends on how games go’

The Titans rode Derrick Henry to the playoffs and an upset victory over the Ravens last season. He put up 303 rushing attempts in the regular season and then a whopping 83 in the playoffs. That workload would appear to be in the cards again after a successful season, but Titans OC Arthur Smith hopes Darrynton Evans can become a factor.

When asked about Henry’s workload Smith said, “it depends on how the game goes” and “if more guys are touching the ball” it’s probably better for the offense, per NFLN’s Mike Giardi. Smith went on to laud Evans, saying he is very smart and has a lot of potential.

Last season, Dion Lewis held Evans’ spot and only had 54 rushing attempts and 32 targets. The Titans went all in on Henry, but still didn’t involve him in the passing game much, with just 18 receptions on the season. It doesn’t look like that will change this year, but Evans will likely need to exceed expectations to truly get enough work to be a factor in fantasy football and take away a significant chunk of Henry’s touches. The only real worry for Henry should be a possible injury or decrease in efficiency.
