A last-second replacement fighter was needed when Ramiz Brahimaj had a cornerman test positive for Covid-19, and Jason Witt went from signing his contract to a weigh-in in about 48 hours for his fight with Takashi Sato tonight at UFC on ESPN 12.
Sato is 15-3 in MMA, and 1-1 in the UFC after falling to Belal Muhammad via rear-naked choke in September of last year. He lands 3.13 strikes per minute in those last two fights, and the southpaw from Tokyo has ten KO’s and two submissions on his resume.
Witt goes by “The Vanilla Gorilla” and won seven of his last eight on the independent promotion circuit. He’s got 10 stoppage wins across his 15 victories, seven of them by submission, but he’s also been KO’ed in his last two losses. Despite being an underdog, the 33-year-old from Kansas City certainly has his fans at the betting window so far.
