Captain’s Pick

Derrick Rose ($14,700)

There aren’t a ton of great Captain options in this contest. Donovan Mitchell lacks upside, Andre Drummond is on the Cleveland Cavaliers and Rudy Gobert is really only a floor play. So Rose is a good upside play that saves us a little bit of salary at Captain. Rose has a really good floor given that stretch of games in which he had 20+ points pretty much every night.

Fade of the Game

Donovan Mitchell ($16,800 CP)

I’m having a tough time coming to grips with why Spida is this expensive in Showdown simulations. Sure, he’s one of the better scoring guards in the NBA, but that’s really all he provides. He isn’t a plus-passer, he isn’t a plus-shooter, so his upside is capped — as I alluded to up there.

Value Picks

Blake Griffin ($3,800) — There’s some really good value in these sim Showdown’s and it’s created mostly through injuries. Griffin pretty much missed all of this season, but the box scores in which he played are totally fine. So we can get one of those rolls and pay way down for an All-Star type of play.

Sekou Doumbouya ($1,600) — Doumbouya is going to cost you next to nothing for a player who emerged toward the middle of the Pistons campaign to be pretty useful in the rotation. Dr. Doum has started 19 of his 38 games this season, which is a solid sample size. At this price, we’re getting a player with a safe floor.
