The Brooklyn Nets’ title odds are at +30000 on DraftKings Sportsbook, which is far from the mark of +2500 they opened the season with. Brooklyn clocked in at +6600 on May 13th, but that figure dropped to +8000 following the release of the NBA’s updated playoff schedule earlier in June. The Nets weren’t considered to be legitimate contenders ahead of the season, and their chances look even slimmer without their two stars — Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
Irving has only played in 20 games this season and has been hindered by multiple injuries. A shoulder injury ended his season in February, and although he’s undergone surgery, he’s announced that he won’t return for the postseason and will continue rehabbing. Durant hasn’t played this season because of a torn Achilles he suffered in the NBA Finals last year. There was speculation that he could be considering making a return this season, but he shut those rumors down and intends to make his Nets debut next year like he initially planned.
Brooklyn still has talented players like Spencer Dinwiddie and Caris LeVert, but neither of them can stack up against the All-Stars other teams have to offer. It is one of three teams in the Eastern Conference that hasn’t clinched a playoff spot and is only six games ahead of the ninth place Washington Wizards. The Nets aren’t even a lock to make the playoffs at this point, so I wouldn’t bank on them making a deep title run.
