Another strong field at the Travelers Championship brings just as much value as last week. Nine of the top 10 golfers are competing to claim top honors at this year’s Travelers Championship.

Editor’s Note: the following golfers have withdrawn from the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship:

  • Cameron Champ
  • Graeme McDowell
  • Brooks Koepka
  • Webb Simpson
  • Chase Koepka

The past five winners here include Bubba Watson (2015, 2018), Russell Knox, Jordan Spieth and Chez Reavie. A few golfers have seen their odds shorten substantially from last week, like RBC Heritage winner Webb Simpson (+1800), along with Abraham Ancer (+3300). Since 2012, the average winning score is 13-under par, with the highest coming from both Bubba Watson (2018) and Chez Reavie (2019) at 17-under par and the lowest with Ken Duke (2013) at 12-under. Since coming back from the shutdown, the winning scores have been 15-under at the Charles Schwab Challenge and 21-under at the RBC Heritage. We should see another birdie fest this week in Cromwell.

Xander Schauffele to Win +2500

The ball-striking was atrocious last weekend, but Xander ended his tournament with eight birdies in the final round. Ball-striking is a must here, and we’ll know early in Xander’s round if he’s going to compete, showing a lackadaisical demeanor when he’s not in contention. Last week is looking more like an anomaly with the way he’s played recently, ranking fourth in greens in regulation gained and 10th in par 5 scoring over his last three tournaments. It’ll be hard to fade Patrick Cantlay and Dustin Johnson at +2800; they might be a Wednesday evening addition to the betting card. Still, we should feel confident with Xander, who’s been a birdie machine ranking top 3 in birdies or better gained over his last three tournaments.

Gary Woodland to Win +5500 | Top 10 +500

This seems like an overreaction from last week’s performance (T62), mainly because he finished inside the top 10 the week previous at a tough course like Colonial CC. Woodland continues to hit it solid and is rolling the rock exceptionally well, ranking in the top 25 in SG: Putting over his last three tournaments. Gary’s also recording a lot of red numbers on the card, ranking third in birdie or better gained over his previous 12 rounds.

Kevin Chappell Top 20 +1100

Chappell was plagued by a terrible putter in round 1, losing 2.4 strokes on the greens, but found his stride on Friday by carding seven birdies and missing the cut by one. He’s missed the weekend in two of his last four tournaments but was able to notch a top 25 at the AT&T Pro-Am, another short course in Pebble Beach GL. Over his previous 12 rounds on Dye designs, he ranks inside the top 50 in green in regs gained, 18th in SG: Approach and 29th in SG: Putting. If you’re feeling less bullish on Chappell, which is understandable, he’s +500 for a top 30.

To be decided by a Playoff +400

Eight tournaments (30 percent) have been decided in a playoff this season, and this week could have a similar outcome at a course these guys should be able to score on. It happened a couple of weeks ago at the Charles Schwab, it almost happened last week at Harbour Town and it should be in play again at the Travelers with what could be another jam-packed leaderboard come Sunday. Every tournament since the Genesis Invitational has either ended in a playoff or has been won by one.
