We’ve got a new NBA market up on DraftKings Sportsbook to go over. They’ve posted odds on who will be the No. 8 seed in each conference. This isn’t that much different from the odds to make the playoffs out of this group, though they are new odds that we can take a look at. Really, the race in the Western Conference is much tighter than the Eastern Conference. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Western Conference No. 8 Seed Odds

Memphis Grizzlies: -150
Portland Trail Blazers: +350
New Orleans Pelicans: +400
Sacramento Kings: +1100
San Antonio Spurs: +1300
Phoenix Suns: +6000
Dallas Mavericks: +50000

Eastern Conference No. 8 Seed Odds

Orlando Magic: -118
Brooklyn Nets: +100
Washington Wizards: +1300

So really the only difference between the playoff odds and these No. 8 seed odds are we get a few other teams popping up. The Mavs are very, very long odds to drop down to the No. 8 seed. Dallas would essentially have to lose out in their eight regular-season games and the Grizz would have to be almost perfect to move to No. 7. The Blazers and Pelicans get decent value if you think that the Grizzlies may struggle. Both the Blazers and Pels have more talent than Memphis, it’s just the season was stopped. If we played out the remaining quarter, chances are the Blazers or Pels would have jumped Memphis.

In the East, there isn’t much to see here. The Wizards don’t really have much of a shot 5.5 games back with 8 to play. They also just lost Davis Bertans, who has decided to sit out the season’s return as an impending free agent this offseason. The Nets could fall down to the No. 8 seed at only 0.5 games ahead of the Magic, so the +100 there is the safest bet.
