SHOWDOWN STRATEGY
Washington Redskins
After a somewhat disappointing rookie season, Dwayne Haskins ($10,400) only has a 70 overall rating in Madden. He’s still producing decently well in Madden, averaging 17.6 DKFP, although his production has been up and down lately. For tournament purposes, Haskins looks to be a pretty clear boom-or-bust option from looking at his game logs. If we take a look at his last five games, he’s scored over 20 DKFP twice and under 10 DKFP in the other three games. In this spot, I think Haskins is going to have to throw a ton to keep up with the high-scoring Chiefs’ offense.
One player whose production has really fallen off a cliff lately is Terry McLaurin ($7,800). He opened our Madden sims as one of the top producing wideouts, which hasn’t been the case lately. McLaurin has been held to 12 DKFP or less in five of his last eight games. His price isn’t worth the production when we consider that he’s the most expensive pass catcher on the team and the fourth most productive on a per-game basis. Paying up for the Chiefs’ stars is a way I prefer to build a lineup for this slate.
Washington has also gotten solid production out of its second wide receiver, Paul Richardson Jr. ($9,300 CP/$6,200). He’s averaging 13.3 DKFP, making him the top producing skill position player on the team. Due to his cheap price and potential upside, I like playing Richardson in the Captain’s spot. The salary savings with him there let us jam in more of the Pro Bowl players from the Chiefs.
A couple more receivers to consider: Trey Quinn ($4,600) averages 12.1 DKFP and is a frequent target for Haskins out of the slot. In total, he’s brought in 97 receptions for 1,496 yards during our sims and has shown a ceiling of 38 DKFP. Jordan Reed ($6,600) is a bit more expensive, but has also shown quite a bit of upside. With injuries not the same factor that they are for him in real life, Reed is viable option for video game purposes. He’s also the highest-rated skill position player on the team at an 84 overall rating.
While running back play has generally been weak in the Madden sims, it’s worth noting that Derrius Guice ($6,000) has been outstandingly awful. Somehow, he’s only averaging 6.3 DKFP and rarely does anything of note. In Washington’s last 14 sim games, Guice has been held under 8.0 DKFP 11 times. There is too much downside for me to consider rostering him.

Kansas City Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes ($12,400) is tied as one of the highest-rated players in Madden at a 99 overall. While this hasn’t always led to a ton of production, Mahomes has faced a really tough strength of schedule. This is not going to be the case tonight as the Redskins don’t present all that challenging of a matchup. The former MVP should be able to tear them apart through the air. The Redskins have one of the worst defenses in Madden.
Damien Williams ($8,400) is one of the few starting running backs in Madden that we have seen produce consistently. With an 83 overall rating, he’s averaging 13.9 DKFP. This also looks to be a favorable game script for the Chiefs’ lead back. On paper, KC shouldn’t have much trouble running away with this game, meaning that we should see Williams grinding out the clock in the fourth quarter. He has 1,605 total simulated rushing yards.
On the high end, we have to consider whether Tyreek Hill ($10,800) or Travis Kelce ($9,200) is the better option. Both have a 96 overall rating, but Hill has been the more productive of the two overall. He’s averaging 17.2 DKFP compared to an average of 14.6 DKFP for Kelce. While both are in play, I prefer to spend up a bit for Hill. He shouldn’t have much trouble burning the Redskins’ secondary and has shown a massive ceiling lately. Last game in a much tougher matchup against the Bills, Hill scored 34.2 DKFP.
Of the Chiefs’ secondary receivers, Demarcus Robinson ($5,600) is a viable value play. Robinson has been serviceable and averages 11.5 DKFP. We might need his salary savings to be able to fit some of the Pro Bowl-caliber Chiefs players into our lineup. Despite being cheap, Robinson still has a decent ceiling due to how good his QB is. Robinson has scored as many as 34.5 DKFP in a win over the Falcons.
THE OUTCOME
Just like if this was a game in real, I don’t think we should expect this to be anything other than a one-sided game in favor of the Chiefs. They are loaded with highly rated players on offense and the Redskins don’t have nearly enough talent on defense to compete. From a viewing perspective, this game still has a chance to be really fun since we have seen the Redskins’ offense score through the air when down double-digits. Just look at what happened in their last game. Overmatched against the 49ers, Haskins had to throw to try to keep up. Washington lost, but the final score was 38-28 and there were plenty of fantasy points to go around. I think we could see something similar in this game.
