Opening odds for MLS Is Back tournament

Major League Soccer returns to competitive play on July 8th when the MLS Is Back tournament gets underway in Orlando, Florida. The league has not announced the schedule, but the group draw has taken place for the 26-team tournament.

DraftKings Sportsbook unveiled futures odds for the tournament, and Los Angeles FC is the overwhelming favorite at +350. The next closest odds belong to Toronto FC at +900. LAFC is favored at any book you find, and you might be better suited looking for some sleeper value further down the list.

The group draws are where we can potentially find value. Odds will be incoming for the group draw, but looking at LAFC, they’ll be sizable favorites in Group F. They face off against the LA Galaxy (+2000), Portland Timbers FC (+2800), and Houston Dynamo (+6000).

The bigger question will be how the knockout bracket looks. Given the somewhat obvious nature of the group draw, I suspect LAFC will not have a chance of being paired with Toronto FC from Group C or Atlanta United FC from Group E. The league’s group draw set up a made for TV event, and I suspect we’ll see the same thing when the knockout stage schedule is announced.
