Everything you need to know for the 2020 Belmont Stakes

The Belmont Stakes is the first race of the 2020 Triple Crown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We break down how to watch on TV and via live online stream, odds to win, and draw results, and provide some picks for winners.

The race for the 2020 Triple Crown of horse racing gets underway in unorthodox fashion on Saturday, June 20th. The Belmont Stakes get underway at approximately 5:42 p.m. ET, and will be the first race for one of the biggest prizes in sports due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The race will air on NBC and be live streamed on NBCSports.com.

The Triple Crown normally begins in early May with the Kentucky Derby, but the Covid-19 pandemic has thrown the schedule for a loop. The Belmont Stakes were bumped into later June, while the Derby is now in September and the late May Preakness has been moved to October.

The other notable change is that the Belmont Stakes was lowered from 1 1/2 miles to 1 1/8 miles. This will result in “record” Belmont times, although they will get an asterisk given the distance change.

The Triple Crown race has an approximately 5:42 p.m. post time, but it is not the final race of the day. We have a 12-race card that gets started at 11:45, and closes with a 6:49 p.m race.
