We’re halfway through the RBC Heritage, and Webb Simpson is impressing. Through 36 holes he has back-to-back -6 performances to sit in the lead at -12. Bryson DeChambeau is impressing once again at -11, and he’s joined by Corey Conners.
The cut line ended up at -4, and we had a few notable names miss the line. Among the top golfers in the world, 6th ranked Patrick Reed, 19th ranked Louis Oosthuizen, 21st ranked Sungjae Im, 22nd ranked Shane Lowry, and 23rd ranked Hideki Matsuyama all missed the cut.
With the Round 2 complete, we can look ahead to Saturday’s Showdown contest on DraftKings. Here are some picks I’m looking at on Day 3.
Webb Simpson ($9,800)
His price went up $600 from Friday’s Showdown contest, but he’s on a roll. He had some issues a year ago at Harbour Town, but in avoiding the inclement weather later in the day, he’s put together two straight impressive days. Considering his performance and he’s still under $10,000, he’s worth a look. He’s on a bit of a heater.
Corey Conners ($7,500)
We picked him yesterday and it’s time to let it ride in Round 3. He had a solid day on Thursday minus a bad putt on Hole 7, and built on that in a big way on Friday with the low round. Even if he evens out a bit, you’re still looking at a strong performer.
Matt Kuchar ($8,200)
He has a lot of historical success at Hilton Head Island, winning six years ago, and finishing 5th, 9th, 11th, 23rd, and 2nd since then. He started slow on Thursday, but put together a solid -5 on day two. He mixed in three bogies, so if he can clean things up, he could shoot up the leaderboard on Saturday.
Matthew NeSmith ($7,500)
A double-bogey cost him on Friday, but otherwise he’s been quietly impressive. He’s tied for sixth at -9, with a -4 and a -5 thus far. He’s a rookie so there is some concern about a stumble, but this is an upside pick to clear a little salary space. He might be worth pairing with Conners if you’re looking to gamble a bit in the third round.
