The biggest women’s favorite on tonight’s UFC Fight Night on ESPN+ card is Julia Avila against Gina Mazany. But is there fantasy value to taking the big favorite?
Julia Avila: $9,300
Gina Mazany: $6,900
Avila is -625 on the money line, with Mazany the underdog at +420.
Avila goes by the delightful “Raging Panda,” but Panda’s are known for their inherent laziness. Not so here, as the 7-1 Avila has three KO’s and one submission on her resume. Her UFC debut was a unanimous decision over Pannie Kianzad, where she landed 3.27 significant strikes per minute.
Mazany is the reason the price is so high here, as she was just 1-3 in her UFC career before being dropped. She found a first round win in the King of The Cage promotion in January over Valerie Barney, and that was enough to get her added to this card. Two of her UFC losses were by first round stoppage, an arm triangle and a TKO. She’s replacing Karol Rosa here, who bailed on her fight with Avila yet again.
It’s very possible Avila can get back to winning early, especially over a fighter that has one fight in the last 16 months over someone no one knows. We’ll be on Avila tonight, and hoping she can use her stopping power to defeat an outmatched opponent.
