Two bantamweights in search of Henry Cejudo’s now-vacant bantamweight title square off when #2-ranked Aljamain Sterling faces #4 Cory Sandhagen at UFC 250 on Saturday from the UFC Apex venue in Las Vegas. The winner of this fight is likely to receive a shot at the championship, setting this up as an eliminator bout in the division.
Aljamain is 18-3 in his career, including four straight wins and a decision over Pedro Munhoz his last time in the octagon. He’s got nine stoppages and nine wins via the judges, and the 30-year-old out of Cortland, New York has been on the UFC roster since February of 2014. He lands 4.85 significant strikes per minute in the promotion, but absorbs only 1.95.
Sandhagen is 12-1 in his MMA career, including 5-0 in the UFC. The seven stoppages in his 12 wins have come via four TKO’s and three submissions, and his 7.14 significant strikes per minute rate is one of the highest in the UFC at any weight class. He enters as a tiny underdog for this fight, but with a chance at the belt on the line this should be one of the best match-ups of UFC 250.
