Best lineup strategy for Korean baseball DFS May 9th

The power numbers are down but the offenses are up across the KBO. Though we’ve had just 28 home runs in 20 games, a total of 63 runs were scored yesterday alone. And we also had our first extra-inning game: A walkoff win for the Lotte Giants who scored a run without a hit in the bottom of the 10th inning, and won it on a wild pitch.

Small ball is winning so far, but it also scores less fantasy points. So keep that in mind as we take a look at the best fantasy options for May 9th in the KBO.

Pitcher: Tae In Won, Samsung Lions ($6,200)

I’d take you, yes you the person reading this, if you were under $6,500 and starting against the Kia Tigers right now. Won has already pitched in relief this season, but gets the start tomorrow. Matt Williams team put up an eight-spot on Thursday... and then got shut out today. They can’t hit enough.

Catcher: Eui-Ji Yang, NC Dinos ($5.100)

The league MVP is back, and he’s ready to roll. We were worried about Yang facing Tyler Wilson yesterday, but he went 3-5 with a double anyway as Wilson got shelled. The VORP of Yang is just greater than that of any other catcher, even at this price.

First Base: Byung-Ho Park, Kiwoom Heroes ($5,200)

Had a big day yesterday, and has been hitting the ball consistently hard all season. Facing the lightly regarded Kim Ee-whan (38 IP, 15K last season) makes this a value play.

Second Base: Jose Fernandez, Doosan Bears ($5,600)

Fernandez struck out twice with a double yesterday, but can still mash it as well as anyone in the KBO at the position. He or Dixon Machado should be in every lineup until further notice.

Shortstop: Jae-Ho Kim, Kiwoom Heroes ($3,000)

A 1.067 OPS, went 2-3 yesterday with a double, and just grinds out points every day. Facing Kim at Hanwah makes this an even better play while saving valuable cap room.

Third Base: Tyler Saladino, Samsung Lions ($4,300)

A good player on a bad team, Saladino has been outstanding value this entire season. He’s averaging 7 FPPG per game, and went 2-4 with a homer yesterday.

Outfield: Hyung Woo Choi, KIA Tigers ($5,200)

Aaron Altherr remains day-to-day, so this is the best start in the OF available. Averaging 10.3 FPPG and facing a marginal pitcher (as is everyone as were onto the fifth starters).

Outfield: Mel Rojas, Jr, KT Wiz ($5,400)

4-5 yesterday with a double and a home run, and a ridiculous 1.611 OPS through four games. Just ride him until he’s $6000 per game or more, as this could be the next breakout American star to re-track his career in Korea.
