We’re back for another day of the Korea Baseball Organization, and the first benchmark of the new season. Teams play three-game series against each other, and Thursday morning will see the five season-opening series wrap up. The Lotte Giants, NC Dinos, and Kiwoom Heroes all look to complete the sweep of their opening series.
Five games are scheduled for early Thursday morning, with first pitch for each game set for 5:30 a.m. ET. ESPN will air the NC Dinos vs. the Samsung Lions, with Karl Ravech and Eduardo Perez calling the game.
The KBO is broadcasting bright and early, with one game on ESPN each day this first week. Moving forward, Tuesday through Friday games are at 5:30 a.m., Saturdays are at 4 a.m., and Sundays are at 1 a.m.
We are slowly getting more data to sort out what to make of this league. There are some familiar faces, but it’s a new league for many American viewers. Two days provides ten games worth of data, and while that’s not much, it gives us a starting point. The run line has been pretty firm across the league, with eight out of ten teams 1-1 against it. We’ve had mostly low-scoring games, with the under hitting in 12 of 20 games.
Thursday morning brings former MLB and Nippon Professional Baseball pitcher David Buchanan making the start. He didn’t last in MLB and saw his numbers get worse each year in NPB. With today marking the closing game of each series, we’re moving into the backs of each rotation. Scoring has been at a premium through the first two games, but it would not be surprising to see it move up a tick in the series finales. This is still the first time facing these pitchers, so don’t expect shootouts, but if you’re considering overs, we could be reaching that point soon.

Below that is a table filled with current records for each team’s performance on the money line, the run line, and for run totals. We also offer up the pythagorean theorem for each team’s runs scored vs. runs allowed to help us better understand each team’s performance.
