Tale of the tape for Uriah Hall vs. Ronald Souza

Uriah Hall and Ronald Souza square off in a middleweight contenders matchup at UFC 249. We break down the odds.

UPDATE: The fight has been canceled following Souza testing positive for coronavirus.

In one of the most evenly matched fights on the UFC 249 card, Uriah Hall faces Ronaldo Souza in the middleweight division in a battle of Top 15 contenders for the belt currently held by Israel Adesanya. This should be a classic battle of striker vs. grappler in the cage at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville on Saturday night.

Hall has a 16-9 career record, and enters as the 10th-ranked fighter in the division. He’s been in the UFC since 2013, and is 8-7 in the promotion. He’s a striker that has won six of those eight by knockout, and has won three of his last four bouts.

Souza is 26-8 in his long career and at one point had won 15 of his first 17 fights in UFC, where he began in 2008. He’s a former middleweight champion, but has lost his last two matchups by decision. The 40-year-old is still ranked 14th in the middleweight division, but it seems unlikely he’s a contender for his previous title anymore.
