The main event of UFC on ESPN 9 tonight features two outstanding welterweights in Tyron Woodley and Gilbert Burns.

Woodley is 19-4-1 and the No. 1 contender at welterweight. He previously held the belt for three years before losing his title via unanimous decision to Kamaru Usman at UFC 235, with four total defenses before his March 2020 defeat to Usman. The balance in Woodley’s game is what makes him elite, with 37 percent of his fights won by KO or TKO, 26 percent by submission, and 37 percent by decision.

Burns enters as the underdog and the #6 contender in his weight class, and has won his last five bouts. His first round TKO of Demian Maia at UFC Fight Night 170 on March 14th gives him a quick turnaround here, and he comes in as a small underdog to a fighter that is 14th in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings.
