Fantasy football impact of Minnesota Vikings signing UDFA WR Quartney Davis

The Minnesota Vikings have continued to bolster their receiving corps. They signed Texas A&M wide receiver Quartney Davis as an unrestricted free agent following the 2020 NFL Draft after using two picks on targets for Kirk Cousins.

Davis ranked second on his team in receptions (54) and receiving yards (616) in his final season with the Aggies. He averaged 11.4 yards per reception and hauled in four touchdown passes.

Scouting Report

Davis’ size and route running could make him a threat from the slot. He works back toward the football well, can create separation, and has proved that he can finishes catches through contact. His athleticism doesn’t jump out at you as far as vertical speed. He could become a quality complementary receiver in the pros.

Slot receiver with above-average size and adequate speed and separation quickness. He has good feel for space when working against two-deep looks. Willing and able to take on targets in the middle of the field. — NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein

Fantasy football impact

Davis will start off behind the likes of Adam Thielen and Tajae Sharpe. Then there’s Justin Jefferson, who was selected with the No. 22 pick in the draft. With stiff competition like this, it’s unlikely that will be able to carve out a starting role. Other backup receivers who were contributors in 2019 should also have a head start on Davis. Thielen and Jefferson both excel in the slot, so don’t expect Davis to be very productive in year one. He might have a pair of scores, but he won’t rack up a ton of receptions or receiving yards.
