Washington OC wants to get the ball to Steven Sims, Antonio Gibson and JD McKissic

Washington’s offense was the worst in the league in 2019. They will look to their young players to step up in 2020.

Washington was dead last in scoring last season with just 16.6 points per game. That means the only way to go is up and offensive coordinator Scott Turner wants to manufacture touches for Steven Sims, Antonio Gibson and JD McKissic, per beat reporter JP Finlay.

After getting rid of head coach Jay Gruden and offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell, Washington added Ron Rivera and Turner to move them out of 32nd in scoring. Last season their only player to put up fantasy numbers was Terry McLaurin while Steven Sims came on strong to finish the season. At this point, they look like the No. 1 and 2 receivers

The team added Gibson in the draft and McKissic in free agency. Gibson was taken with the 66th overall pick and is an offensive playmaker, used as a running back and wide receiver and was incredible on a per-touch basis in college. It makes a lot of sense to manufacture him touches as much as possible while Sims should already be in line for work. McKissic is a wildcard, as he’s been a complimentary player in his first four seasons. But, he does have receiving ability and averaged 5.4 yards per carry with Detroit last season, but on just 38 carries.

The biggest problem for Washington and their offense will be their offensive line. They did very little this offseason to help a position that was poor last season. It will be difficult for the team to support more than one viable fantasy player. Gibson is the wildcard, as he has tremendous upside, but also will have competition for touches, making it difficult to see enough work for consistency.
