We’ve had a change to the Coca-Cola 600 finishing order due to a post-race issue. Brad Keselowski won the race, Jimmie Johnson finished second, and Chase Elliott finished third on Sunday night. However, Johnson failed a post-race inspection and was disqualified.
During the regular post-race inspection, the rear alignment on Johnson’s car failed what Cup Series director Jay Fabian described as the “Optical Scanning Station (OSS) portion of technical inspection.” With the disqualification, he was dropped to last place and loses his 11 stage points.
All other drivers who finished the race behind Johnson were moved up one position in the finishing order. This moved Elliott into second place, bumped Kevin Harvick into the top five, and bumped Chris Buescher into the top ten.
This shakes up final results, but also changes the starting grid for Wednesday’s Alsco Uniforms 500. The top 20 starting positions for Wednesday’s race are the reverse order of the Coca-Cola 600 top 20 finishers. With Johnson’s disqualification, William Byron got bumped from 21st to 20th, so he gets the pole position on Wednesday.
