UPDATE 3:45 p.m.: The Match is officially underway! The foursome teed off at approximately 3:45 p.m. We’re tracking results here.
UPDATE 3:01 p.m.: Word right now is a 45-minute delay to 3:45 p.m., and then we’ll see what happens at that point.
UPDATE 12:10 p.m.: The PGA Tour website says that if The Match can’t be played on Sunday due to weather, it will go Monday at a time to be announced, per golf reporter Bob Weeks. It’s worth noting there is rain in the forecast until Thursday.
UPDATE 11:48 a.m.: The National Weather Service is predicting, “A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm” with winds from the east at 15 mph and gusts as high as 20 mph. They say 40 percent chance of rain, but considering it is currently raining, that might be slightly underestimating things. DarkSky has 37 percent chance of rain at 2 p.m., when the foursome is set to tee off, and as high as 47 percent at 4 p.m. Weather.com is projecting a 100 percent chance of rain at 2 p.m., and at least 80 percent through when the event should run.
If you were getting jazzed up for The Match featuring Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning vs. Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady, we’ve got some bad news. The weather report is not looking good. South Florida resident Pete Prisco said it is currently pouring rain and he would be “shocked” if The Match was played.
There is no word on plans if The Match gets washed out today. Rain is in the Hobe Sound forecast all the way into Thursday. The weather looks nice again next weekend, so it’s possible this gets bumped to next Sunday.
The PGA Tour restarts its season at Colonial on June 11th with the Charles Schwab Challenge. Bumping The Match to May 31st would still leave 11 days before the start at Colonial. That would seemingly create no real issues for Woods or Manning if they’re planning on playing then.
For the time being, we’ll hope for the weather to clear, but with the kind of time needed for 18 holes of golf, it doesn’t look good for today.
