Will the Saints go 16-0?

We break down the New Orleans Saints odds to go undefeated in the 2020 NFL season.

The New Orleans Saints won the NFC South last season with a 13-3 record. Unfortunately, they were relegated to the wildcard round and lost to the Vikings in the playoffs. They did well this offseason though, adding Emmanuel Sanders and Malcolm Jenkins to one of the best rosters in the league.

Betting on win totals, division titles, and Super Bowl appearances is a traditional side of sports betting. However, DraftKings Sportsbook is offering a fun twist for the coming season. They have posted odds on whether one of six teams will go 16-0 in the 2020 regular season. The Chiefs have the best odds to do just that with a +2500 line. The Baltimore Ravens come in second to go 16-0 with a +3000 line, while the Eagles are the biggest longshot you can bet on to go 16-0 at +12500. The Saints sit in the middle at +6600.

Below, we will take a look at the Saints 2020-21 schedule to see what it will take for New Orleans to win every regular season game.

Easy matchups

Week 2: at Las Vegas Raiders
Week 4: at Detroit Lions
Week 5: vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Week 7: vs. Carolina Panthers
Week 12: at Denver Broncos
Week 17: at Carolina Panthers

The AFC West appears to be getting better, but other than the Chiefs, the other teams all had losing records last season while the Saints are solid throughout. I expect the Lions to be much better with Matthew Stafford, so this game could move into “winnable, but close” tier, but for now, this should be a game the Saints take.

The NFC South is going to be a tough out other than the Panthers, who have a new head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterback, plus a deficient defense. Unless the Saints rest players in Week 17, they should win both games going away.

Winnable, but could be close

Week 1: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Week 8: at Chicago Bears
Week 11: vs. Atlanta Falcons
Week 13: at Atlanta Falcons

Tampa Bay got much better and will be tough, but the Saints getting them in Week 1 at home is a great spot due to all the new moving parts the Buccaneers this year. Playing in Chicago will be tough, but the Bears just aren’t as skilled up and down the roster as the Saints. The Falcons are a division rival who can play with the Saints but also don’t have the talent across the board to be favorites in either game after going 7-9 last season.

Tough matchups

Week 3: vs. Green Bay Packers
Week 9: at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Week 10: vs. San Francisco 49ers
Week 14: at Philadelphia Eagles
Week 15: vs. Kansas City Chiefs
Week 16: vs. Minnesota Vikings

Thankfully for the Saints, they get four of these tough matchups at home, but there is no doubt they will be challenged by the two Super Bowl participants, an upgraded Buccaneers team in Tampa Bay, an upgraded Eagles team in Philadelphia and the two top teams in the NFC North. Those two, the Packers and Vikings, may be the easiest games of this tough tier of games, as they are both at home, but the Vikings just won in New Orleans a few months back and that game is becoming a true rivalry matchup.

The Saints are built to win on the ground, through the air and defensively, giving them a real shot at going 16-0 this season, but we know it is far from an easy feat.
