Report: Bojan Bogdanovic to undergo season-ending wrist surgery

Utah Jazz F Bojan Bogdanovic will undergo season-ending wrist surgery, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Monday afternoon. This is really the first big injury news we’ve gotten since the NBA stopped play due to the coronavirus pandemic. Bogdanovic will not be able to return for the Jazz, who are 41-23 and in the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference.

Bogdanovic was having a fantastic season all-around for Utah, which picked him up this offseason from the Indiana Pacers. In his first season with the Jazz, Bogdanovic is averaging 20.2 points per game on above 40% shooting from the field and distance while hitting at a 90% clip from the line. These are pretty rare numbers in today’s NBA believe it or not, really only reserved for guys like Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry. Bogdanovic also started all 63 games he’s played in this season, so the Jazz will need a replacement in the starting lineup.

As for replacements, it would be interesting to see the Jazz work with a 3-guard set and put Jordan Clarkson in the starting lineup. I know the Jazz want a scorer off the bench, especially down their second-leading scorer. The Jazz would also have a really small lineup if Joe Ingles is your PF technically but we’ve seen other teams make it work (Houston Rockets). Rudy Gobert is enough of an anchor down low. My guess is Royce O’Neale or even Tony Bradley steps into the starting five. Utah has very little size behind Gobert and Bradley, not that Bogdanovic was someone who supplied much more.
