Update: Nate Landwehr wins by unanimous decision over Darren Elkins. It was a brutal fight, filled with trash talk and a massive hole in Elkins head that was leaking all over the ring and his opponent, but the decision was enough for the victory.
A veteran featherweight takes on a UFC newcomer tonight when Darren “The Damage” Elkins locks up with Nate “The Train” Landwehr on the undercard UFC on ESPN 8 in Jacksonville.
Elkins has done it all in MMA with a 25-8-0 record, and has been a part of the UFC since 2010. He’s lost three straight fights, blemishing what was a championship-competitive record until then. A balanced fighter that has skills with his fists and ground game, he averages 3.36 significant strikes per minute and 2.68 takedowns per match. It’s also his 36th birthday today.
Landwehr is 13-3 as a pro, but lost his only appearance in the octagon to Herbert Berns in January in a first round knockout. Before that he had won five in a row in the M-1 promotion, winning every fight 2015.
Elkins, despite being a slight favorite, is for sure getting more of the action. That might be accountable to his experience in a UFC arena, but the sharper action looks to be on him. We’ll see if that moves as the fight gets closer.
