Breaking down early Eagles point spreads

The NFL released the 2020 schedule and the Philadelphia Eagles will look to get off to a fast start in their NFC East defense when they travel to face Washington. The Eagles are currently +140) to win the division, just behind the even money Cowboys. Philly’s preseason win total is installed at 9.5 with both the over and under paying at -110.

DraftKings Sportsbook posted all the Week 1 point spreads the evening of the schedule release, and they have since added nearly 100 additional games throughout the season. DK does big business in New Jersey and Colorado, and so we get an almost full list of Eagles lines for the season. The only game that does not have a line is the Week 17 home finale against Washington.

Most likely cover

The Eagles offense should be able to get things going this season with added deep threats DeSean Jackson and Jalen Reagor in the mix, while the defense gets a boost with some additional weapons in the secondary. Their schedule isn’t easy by any means, but playing the Bengals early in the season and at home, is a game they should be able to handle, even with a -7.5 spread. Joe Burrow will upgrade the Bengals, but Id be surprised that they can truly be on track by Week 3 in Philadelphia with a rookie quarterback.

Most likely fail to cover

The Eagles do have some new faces to integrate in what will be a shortened offseason at best, so an early game in San Francisco is one I’m leaning toward Kyle Shanahan and the NFC champs with the -5.5 advantage. This season will take some strong coaching to avoid pitfalls due to coronavirus protocols and Shanahan with a team that got to the Super Bowl last season are the guys who I’d put my money on early in the season.

Line most likely to change

The Arizona Cardinals are already getting some love in the odds here in Week 15 as mere 1.5 point dogs against the visiting Eagles, but that line has plenty of room to move. Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins have everyone putting their rose-colored glasses on after five wins last season. I have those same glasses on, but we still need to see the improvement in regular season games before crowning their arses.
