Report: UFC 249 to take place on tribal land in California

UFC 249 will happen, and it is working its way around California law to happen.

UFC President Dana White has made clear he plans on running UFC 249 on April 18th, and while he has been mum on the location, reporter Jeff Sherwood is reporting and the New York Times confirmed it will be at Tachi Palace Casino Resort. The casino is 40 miles south of Fresno, California on land belonging to the Tachi-Yokut Tribe — part of the federally recognized Santa Rosa Indian Community.

California has an executive order in place mandating people stay at home and not gather in groups. However, tribal land is not subject to state law, and sporting events on tribal land do not need to sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission. According to the Times, the commission has canceled all fights through May 31.

The card is co-headlined by Tony Ferguson facing Justin Gaethje for the interim UFC lightweight championship and Jessica Andrade and Rose Namajunas squaring off in a strawweight rematch. You can view a full list of DraftKings Sportsbook odds here.
