Rookie tight end dynasty rankings for 2020 fantasy football

The NFL draft has sailed into the sunset on what I assume is a ghost ship because who would get on a ship right now? With the draft behind us, it’s time to get some rookie tight end rankings for dynasty out into the ether.

This year was bad for tight ends, with few of them deserving even a Day 2 pick, but they did get drafted and a few landed in interesting spots for their future. I won’t be taking one early in any rookie drafts, but in leagues where I need one, I see no reason not to take a flier on one late.

Tier 1

Devin Asiasi wasn’t high on may draft boards but Bill Belichick traded up, giving an extra fourth-round pick to grab the UCLA alum. With the Patriots extremely weak at the position, Asiasi has a clear road to snaps as early as this season.

The Saints also traded up to get Adam Trautman, giving up four picks. jared Cook isn’t a spring chicken and with that much interest in Trautman, he should get a longer leash than many rookie tight ends this season.

Tier 2

Albert Okwuegbunam was the fastest tight end at the combine and one of Drew Lock’s favorite targets in college. He has Noah Fant ahead of him, but there is upside to his game that could push him into snaps earlier than anticipated.

I don’t like Cole Kmet much, but he is slated to be the next starting tight end for the Bears. They will give him plenty of chances after picking him with their second round selection, which was their first pick of the draft.
