The Indianapolis Colts use their 122nd round pick to take Huskies quarterback Jacob Eason. With Philip Rivers in his twilight years, the Colts needed to find a young signal caller to mold for the future, which could be sooner than later.
At 6’6”, 231 pounds, Jacob Eason is your classic drop back, stay in the pocket, pro-style passer with a strong arm. He was highly recruited out of high school and landed in Georgia, but lost out to Jake Fromm after a knee injury and returned home to the Seattle area to play for the Huskies. He got his chance to start last season and completed 64.2 percent of his passes for 3,132 yards and 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Scouting Report
Eason’s ability shines in a clean pocket but his consistency from week to week leaves something to be desired. He’ll launch NFL caliber throws one series and then make poor decision under duress the next series. He has the physical traits to do more outside the pocket than he does and has flashes of plays under pressure that you want to see. His range of outcomes is wide, but you know the ability is there.
Fantasy football impact
Rookie
Eason won’t have any rookie fantasy value behind Rivers, as Rivers never misses a game and Jacoby Brissett could also be in line to start if Rivers did go down.
Long-term
Eason has the upside to be taken in dynasty league rookie drafts, but unless you can start two quarterbacks, he could be on your bench for a while. He is a lottery ticket on your bench though, as he has a lot of upside longterm, especially in Indianapolis.
