Ravens draft Devin Duvernay with No. 92 pick

Devin Duvernay goes to the Baltimore Ravens with the No. 92 pick in the 2020 draft. Will he be a fantasy football asset to start his career?

The Baltimore Ravens finally add a receiver in the 2020 draft. With the 92nd overall pick, they select Devin Duvernay from the University of Texas. The Ravens and Lamar Jackson need help at receiver, as Marquise Brown and Mark Andrews are the only receivers they can count on and Duvernay has the ability to catch anything and then bowl defenders over.

Duvernay had a rough start to his college career, as he was a Top-5 recruit in 2016 and signed on to play at Baylor under Art Briles, but Briles was let go and Duvernay moved on to the University of Texas, where he showed flashes, but wasn’t used much until his senior year when he broke out, finishing in the nation’s top five with 106 receptions, which went for 1,386 yards and nine touchdowns.

Scouting Report

Duvernay isn’t your prototypical No. 1 receiver at 5’10, 200 pounds. He has great speed and hands, but isn’t an adept route runner, instead using his stoutness to gain yards after the catch. He has high upside as a slot receiver where he can take short throws and make big plays from them.

Fantasy football impact

Rookie

Duvernay landed in a good spot to see snaps early on but also on a team that doesn’t throw the ball all that often. We can’t expect much out of him for fantasy with Marquise Brown and Mark Andrews taking the bulk of the targets.

Long-term

Duvernay has the athleticism and hands to be a plus fantasy player but will need to find ways to get open. As long as he gets opportunities to touch the ball, I like his fantasy upside, but we can’t be certain that he’ll ever be a consistent receiver with limited ability to get open. He’s a risky pick in dynasty, but one where his draft capital should give him enough opportunities to stick around and get better.
