Saints draft Adam Trautman with No. 105 pick

Adam Trautman goes to the New Orleans Saints with the 105th pick in the 2020 draft. Will he be a fantasy football asset to start his career?

The Saints grab another weapon for Drew Brees with the selection of tight end Adam Trautman. Trautman is a touchdown maker and will fill in behind Jared Cook in the offense. He has the ability to become more than a backup, but Cook has the job locked up for now.

In 11 starts Trautman put up 70 receptions for 916 yards (13.1 per) and 14 touchdowns on his way to become the Pioneer League Offensive Player of the Year while playing tight end.

Scouting Report

The biggest knock on Trautman is the competition he faced in college. He’ll need to prove he can get open against NFL defenders. But, he showed plenty of ability to manhandle lesser competition. He’ll need to improve his route running and technique and playing behind Cook should be a a place he can do so.

Fantasy football impact

Rookie

There isn’t much chance Trautman can put up fantasy numbers his rookie year after jumping from a small school to the NFL, even if Cook were to get hurt.

Long-term

Trautman has the size and natural ability to play the position well, but will need time to learn and grow. As long as he gets that time and can stick around the league, there’s a real chance he can make a fantasy impact.
