Make sure your knives are sharp and in one of those fancy bags as you get ready tonight’s DraftKings Sportsbook Chopped picks contest. And just like the chefs on the show, you can win real money by answering questions about the
Tonight’s episode is title “Beat The Judge: Tiffani” and the contestants will be those that have won on previous shows competing against frequent Chopped judge Tiffani Faison. Faison is the executive chef or owner of several restaurants in the Fenway district of Boston, and a former Top Chef finalist. Here’s the description of tonight’s show:
“A rare snack food is part of the puzzle in the appetizer round and in the entree round, the champs try not to let a mashup ingredient affect them.”
Unlike some show descriptions, this one is helpful! So let’s make some picks for a few of the 10 questions you’ll need to answer correctly to win up to $1000.
“Will any contestant forget a basket ingredient?”
* Yes
* No
We’ve had this question each week of this season in the DK pools, but these shows are all returning chefs that have competed in the Chopped kitchen previously. It’s pretty unlikely anyone would airball an ingredient having been under the pressure and hot lights before while prepping. We’ll keep saying no here until the rookies return.
“Will any judge use the term “undercooked” or “raw” when grading the entree round?”
* Yes
* No
When you’re cooking with just 20 or 30 minutes, sometimes your ideas are a bit more ambitious than the oven and burners in front of you. And it happens plenty. If it was just “raw” we might be a no (and if there’s sushi, you might win anyway!), but undercooked is more often a yes than a no across the nine plates that will be assessed by three judges: that’s 27 opportunities to undercook your food!
Who will win?
* Tiffani Faison
* One of the challengers
You can argue about her personality, and she was one of the most disliked characters in Top Chef history, but Faison can cook. And she can do it under pressure. You don’t get to the end of Top Chef, and then win the Top Chef Holiday Special, and then go back for Season 8 and make a nice run, unless you can perform under pressure. Stadium kitchen experience is key, and that’s why we’ll take Faison.
How many female judges will there be?
* Zero
* One
* Two
* Three
With Tiffani ineligible, it’s one less woman to have in the rotation of Chopped judges, which run about 50/50 between male and female. We’ll play the math here and go with just one for tonight’s episode.
