Peter King is hearing the Chiefs are interest in trading up for WR Henry Ruggs III

Could the Kansas City Chiefs be looking to add yet another speedster to their roster? NBC Sports reporter Peter King says they could have interest in trading up for Alabama wideout Henry Ruggs III in the 2020 NFL Draft if he drops outside the top 20. Kansas City has the 32nd overall pick and is looking to maximize its group of talent out wide.

The reigning Super Bowl champs already have Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman on their roster. Both can run the 40-yard dash in under 4.35 seconds. Ruggs has wheels that could rival both players though. He ran the 40 in 4.27 seconds at this year’s NFL scouting combine and somehow managed to be upset about it. Although Ruggs didn’t break the record mark of 4.22 seconds that John Ross set in 2017, it’s safe to say that he could be lethal at the next level.

Ruggs has the kind of explosiveness that doesn’t come around often. He’s a scoring threat whenever he touches the ball and scored six touchdowns on 12 receptions as a freshman at Alabama. He went on to finish his collegiate career with 1,716 receiving yards and 24 touchdown catches. He scored on more than 25 percent of his receptions with the Crimson Tide.

Sammy Watkins will be an unrestricted free agent in 2021, so Ruggs could be groomed to become a starter as soon as his sophomore season. Ruggs falling to outside of the top 20 seems like a reach, as he’s widely considered to be the third best wide receiver prospect in a loaded class. But if Kansas City does manage to land Ruggs, their offense could get even more creative in 2020.
