Ryan Tannehill started off as a backup for the Tennessee Titans in 2019, but had one of the most impressive seasons in the NFL after he won the starting job from Marcus Mariota. Tannehill’s efficiency and leadership was one of the driving forces behind Tennessee’s playoff push. He only played in 12 games, so his total stats weren’t amazing last year. But he’ll be a Week 1 starter in 2020.
Tannehill’s over for passing yards is 3,435.5 for next season on DraftKings Sportsbook. His total for touchdowns is set at 22.5. Can he reach those totals without a dynamic receiving corps?
Prediction: Over 3,425.5 passing yards, Over 22.5 TDs
Tannehill averaged 4,055 yards and 25 touchdowns per year from 2013 to 2015 with the Miami Dolphins. He only had one Pro Bowl wide receiver during that span in Jarvis Landry. But that was when Landry made his first career Pro Bowl appearance in 2015 after notching 110 catches for 1,157 yards and four scores. A.J. Brown totaled 1,051 receiving yards and eight scores as a rookie, so he could continue to improve moving forward and be a reliable top option.
Tennessee has a reputation for being a running team, and Derrick Henry rushed for a league-leading 1,540 yards and 16 scores in 2019. But I don’t think you should expect that same level of production again. The Titans have a young receiving corps and could have Tannehill under center all year long. Tannehill led the NFL in passer rating, so why not trust his arm more? He might not dominate at his position, but he seems like a lock to have an above average season.
