If you were looking forward to the PDC Home Tour — that’s the Professional Dart Corporation — then we’ve got some bad news for you. Gary Anderson won’t be competing Friday night at 7:30 p.m. GMT on the PDCTV Website.
No, it’s not because his hand cramped up and he can’t throw. No, it’s not because he doesn’t have ample amounts of beer to be able to compete in such a home event. No, it’s a tail as old as time: WiFi. Anderson doesn’t have the bandwidth from his home in Somerset despite being a two-time World Champion at Darts.
You just hate to see it, really. Here’s what Anderson had to say:
“It doesn’t surprise me. I struggle to pay bills online in my house, it’s really frustrating.
“I did want to take part. It would have been something different to try and win.”
This was supposed to be Anderson’s “comeback year,” according to The Sun. He had missed most of last season due to elbow and back injury. Who knew that somebody could be held out of the PDC due to injury (I didn’t). The bad luck just keeps piling on for Anderson, who was deemed healthy and ready to return until coronavirus hit. Now this whole wifi fiasco happens and Anderson can’t compete.
Anderson is currently +1400 on DraftKings Sportsbook to win the PDC Championship this season. Those are the fourth best odds in the field, right behind his partner Peter Wright (+550), whom Anderson won the World Cup of Darts with recently. It might be worth fading Anderson as long as he’s dealing with poor wifi.
