Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods to tee it up on tv once again? Phil is “working on it”

Could Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson get together and give us another showdown to help ease the pain of no sports during a worldwide quarantine? It looks like that might be happening.

Phil Mickelson replied to a tweet on Sunday implying he’s already working on a re-match with Tiger Woods.

This has happened before as on Black Friday in 2018 the duo teed off in “The Match” at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas. Phil won on the fourth playoff hole, banking $9 million to $1 million for Woods for coming up short. But that was with a full crowd, a pay-per-view model, and a complete television broadcast setup. What we might see now might have less production value, but could be even more memorable. And the ratings might be transcendent with the entire planet trapped indoors and desperate for live sports.

There is the small matter of the PGA Tour needing to sanction this contest, as the Tour technically controls the player’s media and broadcast rights. But somehow we don’t think PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan is going to stand in the way of his two biggest stars teeing off when they would have the eyes of the entire sports world to themselves.

As far as if golf is safe to be contested during this global pandemic, an esteemed vaccinologist from the Mayo Clinic was on the Dan LeBatard Show with Stugotz last week, and said he thought it might be fine as long as crowds aren’t there. The end of the light-hearted interview does make this seem like much more of a relevant possibility if the logistics can be worked out.
