The East Tennessee State Buccaneers were the best team all season long in the Southern Conference. They might have made the NCAA Tournament even without an automatic bid, but that’s academic now as No. 1 ETSU defeated the No. 7 Wofford Terriers 72-58 to claim the SoCon Championship on Monday night in Asheville, N.C.

Isaiah Tisdale led all scorers with 24 points, and the Bucs were 17-19 from the free throw line, compared to just 6-11 for the Terriers. ETSU was -134 to win the tournament at DraftKings Sportsbook, and were 7.5 point favorites tonight to claim the title.

The win does take away a bid steal possibility, so it favors any teams on the bubble. We haven’t had a true bid steal yet, though some are still on the horizon.
