It wasn’t technically an upset, but it was as big a win as the West Virginia Mountaineers have had this season as they knocked off the No. 4 Baylor Bears 76-64 in Morgantown, WV on Saturday afternoon.
WVU was technically a one-point favorite, but it doesn’t make the big win any less meaningful for a team that had struggled against the top two teams in the Big XII this year, Baylor and Kansas.
West Virginia outrebounded Baylor 42-28, and were led by 18 points from Emmitt Matthews Jr. and 16 from Oscar Tshiebwe. Also it didn’t hurt to have a bit of good luck, as Mountaineer senior Chase Harler proposed to his girlfriend before the game. She said yes, and now WVU is back in contention to get some other kind of rings as the postseason begins.

The loss might seal the fate of the Baylor Bears, as even a win in the Big XII Tournament over Kansas in the final might not be enough to keep them on the No. 1 seed line anymore. A team that had only one loss through February 21st has now dropped three of five, the worst of the trio being an 11-point drop to TCU last Saturday.
