Fantasy implications as Demarcus Robinson re-signs with Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing back Demarcus Robinson for another year. The 25-year-old wideout agreed to sign a one-year, $2.3 million deal for the 2020 season, according to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero, locking him in for his fifth season with the Chiefs.

Robinson had the fifth most receiving yards (449) on his team last year, trailing Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, and Mecole Hardman. But he could be in for a bigger role if some changes are made to the roster this offseason.

Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce should continue to be Kansas City’s top pass catchers moving forward, but the number three spot could be up for grabs if Sammy Watkins is traded or released. Watkins is owed $13.75 million in 2020 with a $21 million cap hit, and that price could be too steep for the Chiefs to pay.

Robinson will be competing with Hardman, the return specialist — who has drawn comparisons to Hill. Robinson logged more targets (55) and receptions (32) than Hardman last season, but the second-year speedster could be in for a major jump in 2020. Robinson has a chance to take a step forward in receiving yards, but surpassing the four touchdowns he scored last season will be tough with Hardman developing into a more reliable target.
