The XFL opens up Week 5 this coming weekend, and other than the Roughnecks and BattleHawks, parity has been the theme of the league. If you aren’t playing those two, your chances of finding a way to win go exponentially up.
DraftKings Sportsbook posted their opening lines for Week 5 of the XFL season, and we have two spreads over a touchdown and one nearly at two touchdowns on Saturday, but two close lines on Sunday.
Seattle Dragons @ Houston Roughnecks
Point spread: Houston -13.5
Houston continues to be the best team in the XFL, as they have yet to lose and have covered in three of their four games this year. This week they’ll face a Dragons team that has been inconsistent at best and awful at worst. We did see an uptick in offense when B.J. Daniels came in for Brandon Silvers last week. They still ended up losing, but did cover the spread. It will be interesting to see how much work Daniel’s gets this week as they head to Houston in an extremely tough matchup.
New York Guardians @ Dallas Renegades
Point spread: DAL -8
Dallas took a big blow last week with the loss of Landry Jones to a knee injury. Jones wasn’t playing all that well, but did move the offense better than his backup Philip Nelson. Nelson should get the start this week against a Guardians team that managed to stem the tide of losses by upsetting the Wildcats at home last week.
Luis Perez was an upgrade over Matt McGloin last week, but still isn’t going to blow teams away with his ability, but there’s a good chance Dallas will have trouble without Jones. The line seems a little high right now, but Dallas at home will be a tough matchup even with the backup quarterback in play.
St. Louis BattleHawks @ DC Defenders
Point spread: STL -3
The last two games for the Defenders have not been easy on the eyes. Cardale Jones has been awful and they’ve scored exactly one touchdown against the Wildcats and Vipers. On the other hand, the BattleHawks have been winning in all facets of the game and quarterback Jordan Ta’amu looked great last week in a win over the Dragons. IF the last two weeks are any indication at all, St. Louis should have their way with the Guardians no matter the venue.
Tampa Bay Vipers @ Los Angeles Wildcats
Point spread: LA -1.5
This matchup looks a lot better than it did three weeks ago. Both teams are 1-3 but both have shown good signs of late, especially on offense. Josh Johnson has been lights out as a passer since getting healthy, but also lost Nelson Spruce and Martez Carter in the process.
The Vipers didn’t score an offensive touchdown in their first two games, but a change in play-calling duties seems to have helped out in their last two games, as they’ve put up 27 and 25 points in their last two, winning one.
