Assessing injuries for the Brooklyn Nets during the break

The Brooklyn Nets have had one of the more interesting season timelines. You go out and sign Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in the offseason and instantly you’re title contenders. Oh wait, Durant is going to miss the entire season. Okay, so it’s just Kyrie, no big deal, can totally get into the playoffs. Irving also gets hurt and is done for the year. Okay down two All-Stars, it’s all good, dawg. Caris LeVert and Spencer Dinwiddie can get us there. Kenny Atkinson’s gotta go. No more coach. Still going to make playoffs but what’s the direction of the team?

The Nets entered the break coming off three straight wins, including an impressive victory at Staples Center vs. the Lakers. LeVert is legit and is probably a borderline All-Star/in the Most Improved Player conversation if he plays the whole season. Dinwiddie was also in both those convos as well before the break. Really, injuries have defined the Nets season and for the most part, the team has done alright.

If the season resumed in June with the playoffs and the Nets got Kyrie back for a first-round matchup vs. the Raptors, is that series suddenly interesting? I think it’s interesting even if Kyrie and KD are out. While the “There’s no reason to rush him back” crowd will be the majority, if KD and Kyrie are both fresh in June, I mean, why not? Let’s see if the two All-Stars can win a title.
